Well done on persevering, instead of just seething and throwing things, which is always the temptation. Maybe the splash guard can be replaced w/o having to buy an entirely new Bosch?

The lesson I took away from that incident was this: when things start to go badly wrong, don't try to salvage them. Throw it all out and start new.
